EXYRA - BLUE LIGHT GLASSES

July 9, 2019

In the ages of smartphones, tablets and computers, us millennials are reportedly checking our phones around 150 times a day and it can add up to 10 hours of screen time daily. But have you thought about the adverse side effects that the High Energy Visible Light can effect your skin ? (HEV light otherwise also known as Blue Light). Four eight hour workdays sitting in front of a computer screen actually exposes the skin to the same amount of energy as 20 minutes in the mid afternoon sun! ( According to a study by Unilever Skincare Research)

Blue Light is shown to cause oxidative stress on the skin and creates free radicals which can effect the integrity of the collagen structure of the skin especially around the eyes. The eye contour has the thinnest and most fragile skin from the entire face and as the don't have sebaceous glands, the skin around the eyes is strained by 22 muscles to help coordinate 10, 000 blinks per day. Therefore the eyes is one of the first parts of the skin that will shows signs of ageing and form wrinkles. Blue Light can add extra strain and exacerbates fine lines and sagging and can slow the skin healing process so the damaged cells can lead to pigmentations such as melasma. Blue light can also penetrate the retina and put strain on the eye muscles which can lead to reduction in contract, blurry vision, dry eyes and headaches.

Raymond Seubelan , the founder of EXYRA glasses , developed his idea of blue light blocking glasses after he suffered from digital eyestrain, headaches and fatigue. Now the Australian designed product is proudly worn in over 70 countries and is available nationally.

Unlike some glasses brands available who simply coat their lens which a protective film, EXYRA eyewear is made my using photochromic dye which absorbs and blocks high frequency blue light waves from entering the retina and surrounding epidermal layers of the skin to prevent damage to the delicate area. The lens innovations which is exclusive to the brand also protects from UVA and UVB damage by the sun. The EXYRA glasses also has perfect optical clarity and full colour perception.

There are 7 gender-neutral styles in different colours available in either prescription of non prescription options. I was kindly gifted the style Ursa in speckled blue which I got with my lens prescription. They are anti scratch, anti reflective and also available in a speckled red or grey colour. I loved that I also got a little screwdriver incase I need to tighten the handles at any point!

I work in front of 3 screen daily, then use my phone in between and when I get home, then have the TV as well, so there is constant strain on my eyes and skin. I have really enjoyed wearing these glasses as not only are they super stylish, I have noticed a difference in how I feel at the end of the day. I have been sleeping better, I don't have screen induced headaches and my eyes don't have as much strain on them after a work day. As my EXYRA glasses are also in my prescription, I can more of less wear these all the time and not only when Im in front of screens. This makes it a lot easier to protect my eyes and not have to 'remember' to put them on!
