The adverts for the Maybelline Tattoo Brow Gel has been all over my social feed and also as sponsored posts on my snap chat stories so I thought what the hell, gave in and decided to try out the product. I have long thick hairs in my brows but they all grow towards the centre of my brows leaving the top of my brows and the inner ends quite sparse. These are the areas I tend to fill in the most to avoid my brows looking too thin and to define them.
I am hoping that the gel will tint those areas specifically so I can avoid filling them in on makeup free days and also to make it easier when I do need to fill them in. I picked up the Grey Brown shade from Priceline for $25 for 5ml. There are another three shades available in Light, Medium and Dark Brown. I bought this shade in the hope that it had a cool finish.
The product is thick and gloopy and the brush is on the thicker side so I also had a precise eye brow brush on the ready to apply the product to ensure the product stayed in my desired areas and to define the coverage. I started with cleansing the area I was going to cover with some micellar water. I was able to apply the product over the brows quite easily with the brush given, it was easy to spread so I just used a eyebrow brush to tidy up the application. I left it on for 20mins and was quite worried that I would not be able to peel of the gel once it dried as my hairs are thick. I got a timer on for 20 mins and waited for it to dry. Once ready I used tweezers to loosen the gel from the inner brow area and was surprised so how easily it peeled off. Some bits were caught in the brow hairs so I used a spooley to comb out the excess. The gel dries stringy and light so It all comes off with ease.
I could definitely see more definition in my brows and they looked fuller and bold. At a closer look with the Grey Brown shade it left a blue/green tint which was obvious especially at the inner brows as my hairs are really sparse. ( see below picture) I used a cotton bud with a little micellar water to blend the inner area as it was very defined to the shape I applied the tint and I didn't like that. To cover up the greenish tone, I used a brow gel with colour to comb my brows in place and to also tone down the shading.
I was told not to cleanse the brow area for maximum longevity of the product. So I was extra careful with my night routine the same night I applied the product. I carried on with my normal routine for the next few days , so the tint did start to ware off over the next three days but it was still visible but just on the fainter side. I'd say it lasted 3 days at the most and my brows were definitely bolder than usual but just not defined.
The Grey Brown may have been the wrong shade for my skin colour ( it may work better on darker skin gals) so I plan to buy the Dark Brown Gel Tint to test that out to see if it makes a difference in shading. I will do an updated post once I have given that a go.
All in all the product for me was easy to apply and use, There was a tint that created a bolder and more defined illusion for about 3 days at the most ( could last longer if you avoid washing the eyebrows) which made filing the brows in a little easier.
