I did end up resubscribing again for the next six months and was super excited to receive the 'For the dreamers' edition box. It didn't obviously arrive on the usual first Friday of the month which was a little sad , but I didn't have to wait very long for it!
All the subscribers were in for a chance to win a dream holiday in collaboration with Destinology Holidays. They are giving away 2 dream holidays to the lucky subscribers with a secret message on their box. Who wouldn't love a holiday for 2 to one of the dream destinations? I could really do with a free holiday after working away so hard since my last trip!
After rummaging through my bag for a 2 pence piece and the tedious scratching of my box to ensure I got every inch off it, I found out that I was not one of the lucky ones! Damn! Oh well! I can carry on dreaming and hope I'm chosen from the additional chance given to all subscribers by posting their box of the month on Instagram or twitter. I obviously did both!
Whilst I dream away knowing full well that its not going to happen, It been trying out these products which are all new to me. Subscribers were given 6 items ( an additional small sample) and they are actually quite a great bunch of items. We did get the chance to choose which colour Spectrum sponge we wanted and as I already have the pink beauty blender,I thought I would choose the purple one to add variety.
As usual I try and use the items for the whole month or until it has finished to be able to review and get a feel of the products better.
Givenchy Live Irrésistible Fragrance The smelt so amazing. It has lots of fruity floral notes which I find just perfect for spring and summer. Perfume samples are never big enough and probably only last like 2 wears which is annoying! The fragrance is definitely a mood lifter and one that I will most likely consider purchasing. I felt that it was long wearing ( but I suppose most samples are) and I loved I could smell it on myself considering I can never usually.
Great 10 pack sample ! Thanks a lot Birchbox. These would be so handy for travelling! This product has so many claims of skin perfection, but I just didn't know how it would work on my skin if I cleaned/washed my face AFTER using the wipes!? The wipes are smaller than your average cleansing clothes. They felt very different on the skin too. They had a lot of friction which felt like it was really tugging on my skin to remove my makeup, though this was not painful or uncomfortable. Not sure if these wipes are really worth the price tag, but I loved the smell.
This balm is simple. Its a clear gel like balm, which glides into the hair really well and doesn't really smell of much. I used it on wet hair and let my hair naturally dry. I loved that it didn't leave my hair or hands sticky and gave me really smooth and soft locks. The last thing I want is sticky residue in my hair which then usually just leaves it looking dull and lifeless. This is fab!
This sponge has such a cute name! I love that I now have purple unicorn tears and how cute it looks like sitting next to its cousin the beauty blender! This latex free sponge is dense and soaks in a lot of water and becomes huge when you initially make it damp.I was really excited to try this out, but found that as it stayed so wet, it didn't press my foundation that well around my face and actually soaked in my foundation. The whole sponge more or less became the colour of my foundation and concealer. This sponge is more ideal for less fluid items, possibly to press on powder ( if baking) or when using thicker creamier products were you would prefer a sheer finish.
Mascara is very important to me and I've only really used two great mascaras over the last decade, so I really wanted to love this, to try something new. I found that the formula was quite runny as I would get sprays of the product on my nose by the time i was finished and i don't even brush very vigorously! I did have to use about three layers to get a 'none spider legs'look. I naturally have long lashes and don't need a curl, but I liked the shape of the brush for precise application. The formula did leave me with wispy hard lashes. I would have though the product would be creamy but I found out so runny.
This cream product is a weird texture. In between a mousse and a cream. It easily blended into the skin and didn't leave an oily finished. I used this cream as part of my night routing, on some dark scarring I got from a previous spot on my forehead, but i woke up in the morning with 5 times as many pimples! I have however been brave and used it again all over my face ( can safely say I didn't have a breakout all over) which has been hydrating. I have used this in place of my nice cream. I haven't noticed a big change, but I think it would work better on people with dryer skin than mine.
I'm quite surprised that I have actually enjoyed more than half the items I received this month. That hasn't happened in a long time and Its lifted my spirits a little. To think that last month I wasn't sure what I was going to do about resubscribing. I hope next month is a blast!
