My August BirchBox

August 22, 2015

The #BeautyJunkie edition box is so cute! Its covered in lots of beauty and makeup emojis, I only which I had these in my phone, would make everything so much more fun! ( I have started to collect to my boxes, so this one is a great one to add to the collection)

There have been mixed reviews about this month’s box. I don’t have any expectations in any of my boxes, but I prefer to receive make up products and this month I actually received 3 make up bits! That was exciting. The other items were slightly blah…

Heres what I thought starting with my faves:

Lord & Berry Blush in Lotus

This was my fave item of the month. It is a sheer matte blush and highly pigmented. It looks a little mauve and pale and was worried it wouldn’t show on my skin. But it gave my skin a great pop of colour and a little went a long way. It also lasts all day, I haven't had to top it at all. The sample is a small circle eye shadow side and only comes in a plan. It being a sample, it was expected. The pros for me are that this will last a long time ( a little goes a long way and has longevity) and is good for storage. Off course this will not apply for the full size item.

Rituals Ayurveda Scrub

I used this as a scrub after using a shower gel as I wasn’t sure how well this would cleanse, but this was amazing! Firstly it smells fab, a little rosy, but also a little like bubblegum!

The grains within the product were tiny so not abrasive and the product was easily spreadable so you didn’t need too much for your whole body. The surprising factor was that the product is very very refreshing. I felt tingles for ages after I came out the shower and it made me feel very clean and polished. I can’t wait to use this again.

Illamasqua Matte Veil

I have wanted to buy this for a while, so I was really happy that I received the sample. I had this tested on me along with an Illamasque foundation before and I did find that my makeup stayed matte for a longer period of time, compared to some other primers. I have very oily skin, so I really hoped that it would work just as good again.

I actually wore this on a VERY hot day and I wasn’t disappointed! It could have kept a little more of the shine at bay, but I'm not complaining ( it was nearly 29 degrees that day, so its expected!). It left my makeup looking flawless and that’s all I ask from a base.

Huygens Exfoliating Cream

I stay away from exfoliating grains on my face, but did try this cream. I loved the smell, it was very oriental! The cream texture was nice and rinsed off well,  but I found the rice powder particles too big for my liking. I had to use this very gently as the particles maybe abrasive. Over all it does a good job, but personally I prefer not to use grain exfoliates.

Kebelo Clarifying Shampoo

Another shampoo sample, I already knew I would be disappointed.

The shampoo was fragrance free and a runny texture which helped it rather up very well. It did leave my hair squeaky clean, but didn’t feel very refreshed. My hair didn’t even smell like I washed it once I came out the shower. My hair was however soft, but I don’t know if that’s because my conditioner was in for longer, as I was loving the Rituals scrub!

Laura Mercier Kohl eye Pencil in Black Violet

Although I was excited for my 3 make up items, this one didn’t excite me. It was not a soft kohl, so I couldn’t smudge it. I couldn’t notice a violet after wearing it, therefore it just looked black.

Not much more to say

So thats it! I was generally happy about my selection, as I am each month. I love trying new things and I usually havnt even heard of the brands that I recieve, so its always so much fun.

Im not sure at this moment in time what the theme for next month is, but I look forward to it!
